Run…

I gripped the sheets and awoke with a start as the command gripped my entire body.

My chest heaved as I gasped for breath. Sweat trickled into my eyes.

I looked over at Kyan beside me. His green eyes were watching me, piercing in the darkness of the room only lit from breaking beams of moonlight that crept inside the open window.

The curtain shifted and the shadow of a bat swiped across the moon. At least he had wings. At least he was free.

I shivered.

Kyan reached out and smoothed my messy hair back from my face.

“They are just memories of brave lives you’ve lived. You will have many more good times and bad times to face. But I’m here. I’m by your side. I’ll help you remember everything. I’ll help you live even stronger.” He caressed my cheek, then closed his eyes, breathing in deeply, helping me practice my own deep breaths. Guiding me to find calm.

I mimicked him, but my mind was still a frenzy.

Far too often, I was awaking like this…

The voice in my mind… It was me. It was past lives. It was my life, my voice, telling me, without hesitation, to run. Flee. Get away from here.

Away from Kyan…

His fingertips rubbed into my temple and he began to pulse his sensé out, calming me, directing my emotions. I could feel it so poignantly every time he did it now. Much more significantly since the binding at the Cascade Caché two days before. It seemed to vibrate within my body, like he was playing me with a bow. His very own pet violin.

But, it did soothe me.

Reminding me, that even if my past lives were telling me to run, I didn’t want to in this life…

Kyan was the one.

We were bonded.

I slid my eyelids open just barely to see if he was asleep yet, but his green eyes were watching me again.

I squeezed my eyes shut with a gentle shifting of my hips, to distract him from knowing I was trying to spy to see if he was watching me. I was sure it worked. If anything, I knew my body had power over him. It had to be the bond.

Naomi or her voodoo priestess auntie Claudette might be able to help me understand the voice that called to me so often, waking me from sleep, or from the daydream memories. That voice, so exigent, that shouted a warning.

Everything else about Kyan was exactly what I wanted.

I nuzzled into his caress, practiced my breathing, and soon drifted to sleep beside my partner in our bed in the little cottage where I was learning to be a Queen.
